What is Zibaba?

Zibaba is a distributed social shopping service that lets friends stay connected when shopping anywhere on the web. No longer will you need to waste time wading through hundreds of reviews from strangers. With Zibaba you can get reviews on products and services from people you know and trust. Leverage your friends to share, recommend and discuss products and services, get the best prices and stay connected anywhere you shop. And the best part is you can explore this new and social kind of shopping right from the profile page of your social network site or from any retailer.

How can I add the Zibaba widget to my social network account?

Zibaba offers widgets that you can quickly add either from your social network or from our web site. There are two main options to add the widget. You can either chose to add the widget through the applications on your social network, or grab it from our website and paste it to your page. If you chose the grab it option we will supply you with the code to paste to your page.

Is there a limit to the number of friends I can have?

There is no limit to the number of friends you can have. You can create lists of your friends and categorize them around topics, mood or common interests.

Is there a limit to the number of places I can add the widget?

There is no limit to the number of places you can add the widget (you can add it to your social network account, your blog, your page, etc.).

I don't want to receive any spam. Do you share users' email addresses with anyone else?

We hate spam too. We do not share email addresses of Zibaba users with anyone. The only mail you will receive if you register with Zibaba will come directly from us. You will have the option to opt out of communications from us at any time through a link included on any email we send, or by updating your communication preferences on your Account Settings page.

I have questions about how to use Zibaba. Can someone help me?

The Zibaba Help Team is available to help familiarize you with the Zibaba widget and social shopping features! The Help Team can answer your questions about Zibaba, provide instructions on how to search for products, how to ask about products or create polls, recommend products, and create a wish list containing your favorite items. Will Zibaba always be free?

Zibaba is free and always will be. There are no costs, hidden fees or extra charges to users. Anyone and their friends can use our social shopping service without paying a penny.

Do you sell anything?

Nope. Nada. Not a thing. When you need more information about an item you wish to purchase or you're ready to buy it, you can click out to the retailer from whom we brought it to you.

Do I Buy the Product from Zibaba?

No. You are buying the product from the retailer.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up in one of two ways:

How do I manage my stuff?

In the top bar menu under the “My Stuff” tab, the following services are available:

My Profile is where you can manage your personal profile with information such as picture, interests, and more.

My Friends is where you can add friends to your network and of course you can rely on your list of friends from your existing accounts with social networks (i.e Facebook, Myspace, etc.), emails (i.e MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Google, etc.), IM (i.e MSN, Yahoo, Meebo, etc.).

My Groups is where you can create and manage groups of friends into whatever categories you choose. This feature allows for automatic extraction of contacts from online sources such as email, and social networks. Leverage groups to get advice about products or services from appropriate circles. You can add your trusted sellers to your circle to get advice.

My Lists are where you can manage lists such as wish lists, gift lists, and more (please see more below).

How do I manage my discussions?

In the top bar menu under the “Discussions” tab are the following services:

Discussions is where you can manage discussions with friends about products or services. This is where you can get personalized answers from your friends and more.

Ask about product/service or create a poll is where you can create the question to get advice from your friends.

Share is where you can share something with your friends OR add recommendations about products/services and share them with your friends.

What kinds of shopping activities can I do?

Zibaba enables social network members to get advice from their connections with a unique format. Simply ask your friends for recommendations or request that they vote about a product/service that you wish to buy.
There are several ways to ASK about products you want.

Select the “ask about” tab in the main menu, click on go. Once the ask form opens, add the product, fill in the fields, then click Submit.

Another option is to click on the discussions tab on the top bar menu and select “ask about product”. Once the ask form opens, add the product, fill in the fields, then click Submit.

The last option is to click the Ask link from anywhere on the page. Once the ask form opens, add the product, fill in the fields, then click Submit.

  • Create polls to survey your friends and read their recommendations.

Zibaba enables you to get advice from your connections with a unique format. Simply ask your friends for recommendations using a poll.
 There are two ways to create a poll about a product you want.

Click on the “ask about” tab in the main menu, select “poll” from the list, click on go. Once the poll form opens, add the products one by one (up to 3), fill in the fields, then click Submit.

Another option is to click on the discussions tab on the top bar menu and select “ask about a poll”. Once the poll form opens, add the products one by one (up to 3), fill in the fields, then click Submit.

  • You can search our catalog of millions of products as well as reviews from your friends.
    You can access the search option through the top bar menu or alternatively select the “shop for” tab then in the search box, type in your query, then click GO. 
  • Social Search and Product Search combined.
    Zibaba enables you to readily find, experience and benefit from the wealth of information created and referenced by your friends and social connections. Zibaba empowers its members to easily discover and benefit from the collective wisdom of social connections. Friends and extended networks are increasingly creating and sharing useful information to allow for better online purchase decisions.
    In addition to the standard search of the product catalog, Zibaba incorporates a rich social search capability that takes into consideration the interactions and contributions of the user’s connections. It then dynamically updates the social search results based on real-time social interest. The social search method, which determines the relevance of search results by considering the interactions or contributions of users, will receive higher priority over algorithmic or machine-based approaches.  The social search will help users find exactly what was searched and discussed by their friends (assuming permissions were given) and will lead to better purchase decisions.
  • Recommend product.
    There are several ways to recommend products you love.

Recommending a product you see on the Zibaba widget: When you see something you want to recommend on the Zibaba widget, just click the SHARE button, tell your friends why you love the product and click Submit.

Recommending from the Web: This is another way to recommend products and is particularly helpful for those products not already recommended on the Zibaba Widget. The idea is quite simple.  You’re surfing the Internet and you see something really cool you want to recommend. All you have to do is open the Zibaba widget and click on “share” on the top bar menu, a new recommendation area opens in the window. Write why you like the item, add your link, click Submit and you're finished. You can keep on shopping.

Recommending something using Zibaba's search function: If you know what you want to recommend you can do so directly from the Zibaba widget. Search the product in the main menu, once you find it, click on the Share icon, fill in why you like the item and click Submit.

  • List products.
    Wish lists / gift lists / lists are a great way for people to let others know the things they would most like to have. Create and manage wish lists and share public gift ideas with friends. Get ideas for gifts from friends and enable friends to view your public wish list. Vote/Comment on friends’ gift ideas and enable friends to vote/comment on a gift idea. In the wish list you can be integrated into the social search results.
    Have the option to create public and private lists.

Shopping List/Wish List/Gift List or any other list of products that you may find useful.

How do I add items to a list?

Listing a product you see on Zibaba widget:When you see something you want to list on the Zibaba widget, just click the LIST button, fill in the fields and Save.

Listing from the Web:This is another way to list products, especially those not already available on Zibaba Widget. The idea is quite simple. If you see something really cool you want to list, open the Zibaba widget and click on “ list” on the top bar menu. A new list area opens in the window. Add your link, fill in the fields, click Submit and you're finished. You can keep on shopping.

Listing something using Zibaba's search function:If you know what you want to list you can do it directly from the Zibaba widget. Search the product in the main menu, once you found it, click on the List icon, fill in the fields, click Submit.

How do I make a list private?

Enter the list and in the drop down list of the existing list select “Private list". There is also the option to make certain products on your list private. To do so, enter the product in the list and select “Make this item private”.

How do I delete a list?

On the top bar menu, click "My Lists." For the list you wish to delete, click the "X" icon.

How do I delete a product in the list?

On the top bar menu, click "My Lists." Select the list and for the product you wish to delete, click the "X" icon.

How do I move, reorder or delete items on my list?

To delete an individual item or move it to a different list, on the top bar menu, click “My Lists”. If you wish to reorder the list of items or move from one to another, click on the list, select an item, and change the list name or click on the “X” icon to delete.

How do I invite my friends to Zibaba?

On the top bar menu, click “My Friends”, select "Invite Friends" on your page. Anyone you invite will be linked as your friends, so you'll see each other's latest items and public comments.

How do I add existing Zibaba users as friends?

If you see a Zibaban you'd like to add as a friend, visit their profile and click the "Add as a Friend" link to send them an invitation to be friends. If they accept your request, you will be linked friends, so you'll see each other's latest items and public comments on Zibaba. Otherwise you can do it through the “My Stuff” branch via the “My Friends” option.

If I want to share my list with friends, do they have to first sign up for Zibaba?

No. Whenever you share a question, share or list with your friends, they will be able to view the list even if they are not yet registered Zibabans. They will get the information in an email and will also have the option to respond.

What are some of the feeds I can subscribe to? Track product, coupons, people.

How do I get recommendations on my “discussions”?

"Discussions" is where you can get personalized shopping recommendations from your friends. You can also use “discussions” to create questions about products and services, and as well as see the answers/recommendations.

How do I message another user?

If you want to send another user a message to tell them something, you can do so through the “ask” option in the menu bar under “Discussion”. You can send a message using text alone or also chose to include a poll.

Help! I forgot my password or user name!

Click Sign In on the Zibaba widget, click "Forgot your password?" and type your e-mail address. We'll send you an e-mail with your new password.

Can I change my user name?

Yes. Email us with your existing and new user names. If you want to operate under a new user name, you can also create a new account.

How do I edit my profile?

On the top bar menu click on “My Stuff”, select “My Profile” to edit your profile.

What is the Zibaba usage policy?

We have only a few rules that serve one overriding principle: Do no harm. Zibaba exists for the benefit of everyone and so we ask that you keep this in mind when you have any questions about appropriateness.

How do I report something on the widget that concerns me?

If you see something on the Zibaba Widget that seems objectionable, please report it as inappropriate. We will greatly appreciate if you take the shared responsibility of flagging material that is illegal, offends you or is clearly spam. You know it when you see it. Help us keep our service welcoming and friendly to all visitors!

My e-mail address is private, right?

Of course. We ask for your e-mail address only so we can keep in touch with you and let you know what's going on as our service develops. We will never sell or share your e-mail address with other parties..

How do I prevent Zibaba e-mails from being blocked?

To be sure you do not miss any of the Zibaba excitement and ensure that you experience our e-mail in full fidelity (you won't have to click "load images"), add us to your e-mail client address book. This is quite easy to do for most desktop and Web-based clients such as Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail. In general:

Open a message from Zibaba.
Look for an option to "add sender to contact list."
Add the sender or to your contact list.

What browsers do you support?

We support Internet Explorer and Firefox. That said, we want to hear about problems with other browsers as well and will fix any incompatibilities when reasonable to do so. Please let us know if you are having issues.
