New Survey Shows Growth in Retail Awareness on Facebook

According to data released by Kantar Media’s Compete, more consumers are turning to Facebook to engage with retail brands using the social site to notify customers of promotions and sales.

From a survey of 3,269 online purchasers between April 14 and May 5, 2011, more than 20 percent of consumers said that Facebook pages have been “influential” or “extremely influential” in making a purchasing decision, suggesting that posting sales, promotions and other calls to action on Facebook is a wise idea for retailers looking to increase sales and boost consumer engagement on the social network.

According to the survey 50% of consumers stated that they are fans of at least five retail brands in order to receive the latest information regarding deals and offers.

Surveys like this indicate the rising trend in consumers becoming savvy to Facebook retail.  Accordingly, brands are now increasing their social activity and spending more on what has become known as ‘social strategy planning’.
